UCLA "Hilton"

As I write this, I'm approaching the 24 hour mark of being in the hospital. The short story is that while almost all indicators point to 'great,' a couple (most importantly, platelet count) had our OB slightly worried so she called with instructions to go to the hospital for overnight monitoring. Overnight has officially turned into "you'll leave whenever the babies arrive" which again is mostly out of caution. It's better to have me here and monitored, than home and not sure if something is going on. I'm good with that decision.

It's nice to have Aaron by my side (he didn't go into work today for obvious reasons), nurses checking in to make sure I have everything I need, and a room service menu that honestly rivals that of many hotels I've stayed in. I did order the jello with lunch today - because really, what hospital stay is complete without jello?!? Our room is really quite large, is furnished with a flat screen TV, and the internet has been working like a charm. You will hear no complaining from this mom-to-be!

Here's a pic of the heartbeat/contractions monitoring, which the babies have been passing with flying colors! The main thing we're waiting on at the moment is a visit from the twins specialist to give his opinion on if I should deliver tomorrow or wait until I officially hit 36 weeks which is Thursday of next week. Holy crap - we'll be parents soon!!!

Construction plans are approved!

We received word today from our designer that our construction plans are approved by the City of Los Angeles! There are few final fees to pay, a Pre-Demo-Inspection that will take place, and then they will pull permits for us and we can officially begin. Aaron is predicting (with a twinkle in his eye) that I will go into labor the same day they demo the garage.

More baby prep

With meetings bringing my mom and Dave to Orange County on Thursday & Friday, they tacked on the weekend here in Los Angeles and squeezed in one more visit to help us prep for the babies. There were two key items on my list: 1) moving around the furniture in our bedroom in order to set up the twin pack-n-play where the babies will spend the first several weeks in the bassinets. And, 2) pruning the roses. Certainly the roses aren't baby related, but since I'm mostly restricted to the couch these days there is no way I would be able to do it myself and apparently it's the right time of year to trim them up.

Having my mom and Dave here was also great to help with a few deep cleaning items that have been bothering me (washing curtains and rugs to name a couple). You see, I notice a lot more things now that I pretty much just sit around the house. My list gets longer each day, but Aaron couldn't possibly cross all of them off on his own and I certainly can't do any of them by myself. My mom and Dave also kept us well fed by helping with the shopping and cooking. So awesome!

It's hard to believe that the next time they are here it will be to help us take care of two tiny newborns! Maybe even taking them out for walks in our new stroller set up that we finally have sorted out?!

3 for 3 - another awesome baby shower!

Soon-to-be-Auntie Beth and soon-to-be-Grandma Nan threw a fantastic shower for the baby girls between Christmas and New Years. It was held at a local restaurant and about 25 aunts, cousins, and family friends came to help us celebrate. Great-Auntie Sandye and Auntie Beth put together some silly games for entertainment, the girls were loaded with presents, and we all enjoyed lunch and cake.
